ABOUT THE AREA
The Sheridan County Historical museum otherwise known as the the 1890 Armstrong House Museum displays local artifacts, vintage clothing, Camp Sheridan mementos, items related to Indian War military history and Rushville's first log cabin post office. The Historic Plains Theatre, circa 1914, was originally erected as the Gourley Opera House. After falling into disrepair the theater, now listed on the Nebraska Historic Register, has been restored to its former beauty and is the home of the Sheridan County Players. The Rancher Roundup Octoberfest, in October, features livestock exhibitions by local cattle breeders. But there is plenty of fun at this event as well with wine tasting, beef brisket contest, homemade pies to eat, a salsa contest, bratwurst, sauerkraut and German beer. You get the idea that there is honest to goodness eating here. The town of Gordon is home to the Tri-State Old Time Cowboys Memorial museum; a log building in which there are exhibits such as an early chuck wagon, old saddles, chaps, spurs, tools and gear, other artifacts and relics pertaining to ranching and cowboys and more than 200 brands.
